  Chris Eaton, IBM

This presentation will provide an inside look at the enhancements delivered in the new DB2 9.7 for Linux, UNIX and Windows. It will provide you with an understanding of the new capabilities, the value they bring to the table and how to implement them. Topics covered will include: a brand new concurrency control model, advancements in compression, significant improvements in storage and table space management, new and improved mechanisms to reclaim space, new monitoring capabilities, new Oracle compatibility features, and much more.

  10:30 - 11:45 DB2 Java Performance with pureQuery & Data Studio
David Beulke, David Beulke & Associates

In this presentation the many advantages of pureQuery and Data Studio will be discussed and demonstrated. Generating inLine statements, JAVA methods, object relational mapping or named queries through Data Studio offers the JAVA architect and programmer the flexibility to match their coding style with the application requirements. Data Studio and pureQuery offers the ability to code your JAVA database access in many different fashions to match whatever application requirements are necessary.

11:45 - 12:45 Lunch & product demos provided by IBM Optim

  12:45 - 2:00 DB2 LUW for the z/OS DBA
  Chris Eaton, IBM

Are you an experienced z/OS DBA, but you are new to DB2 for LUW? If so, this session is for you. Often at a conference, you will find a lot of great sessions on advanced performance tuning, monitoring, backup/recovery, but sometimes we forget about people that are new to DB2 LUW and need some level setting first. In this session, Chris will take you through some of the basics of DB2 from storage management, to backup and recovery management to the processes model for DB2 and some simple diagnostics. Walk away with a translation guide for z/OS to LUW speak.

  2:00 - 2:15 Break

  2:15 - 3:30 DB2 Connect for DBAs
  Frank Fillmore, The Fillmore Group

Whether you are a DB2 for LUW DBA who would like to access enterprise information or a z/OS DBA wondering how all those Java and .NET programmers are getting to your data, DB2 Connect is the solution. This presentation will step you through a DB2 Connect primer from end-to-end. Drawing materials from experiences implementing, tuning, and training organizations in the use of DB2 Connect, the presentation will cover platform architecture, DB2 Connect configuration parameters, DB2 for z/OS DSNZPARMs, troubleshooting, and tuning. Case studies from large scale DB2 Connect healthchecks will be included.
